1. For your first epoxy work, choose pieces and paintings that do not require a lot of material consumption. It is preferable to start with small formats, for paintings - not less than 24 cm, to work with molds - not less than 12 cm and a height of not less than 0.5 mm.
At the heart of rubber art technique are properties of epoxy resin, its transparency and viscosity that help to achieve incredible 3D effects and illusion of depth, which other materials are not able to give.
The first thing you need to buy is epoxy resin. In the market of epoxy resins for painting and drawing it varies in viscosity.
The resin comes in thick, medium and liquid. Each is used for specific effects. Thick resin is ideal for obtaining a clear pattern in paintings, an incredible illusion of depth due to the fact that it gives a higher lens.
Medium is appreciated for effects in cup holders.
Liquid is ideal for pouring dried flowers, finishes and fills, obtaining some unique effects which, cannot be achieved on resins of other viscosity.
Thick resin perfectly holds pattern when painting, gives a beautiful lens, has a high gloss and perfectly flat surface. When poured into molds, it has the effect of the average resin from other manufacturers, but with a clearer pattern and almost no bubbles!
Liquid resin does not warp with time after curing, has one hundred percent degassing in pours, gives beautiful, clear drawings.
2. The second, but no less important thing to buy is materials for coloring epoxy resin. These can be liquid dyes, dry pigments, fillers.
Dyes of different series color the resin and affect the speed of its polymerization. By combining dyes from different lines you can get predictable 3D effects.
Do not buy all the dyes at once, start with the basic ones. Learn to control the density of dyeing, mix them in order to obtain new colors and achieve effects when painting.
We recommend having the following dyes in a beginner's arsenal of tar dyes:
Black, white and blue, and a couple of colors according to color preference.
Of the pigments you should take: a pearly white pearlescent pigment, one interference pigment, such as pearly blue, one popping metallic pigment, such as popping gold, and a pearlescent pigment, say gold pearlescent.
Be sure to have resin fillers in your arsenal, such as sand, seashells, they are used to decorate cup holders, painting seas.
Glass and mirror chips gold or silver.
Potassium gum in sheets or flakes.
A tin of glitter.
Liquid gilding.
Wavy additive.
A silicone mould, ideally a cup holder, and some artboards (flatbeds) for drawing with resin.
From the tools are a must, electronic scales with minimal accuracy of fractions of a gram, a torch, spatulas, cups, brushes
